With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 rapidly approaching, the game's third mode is still shrouded in mystery. Campaign and Multiplayer are confirmed, but since the game will not have a Zombies mode, many expected a Special-ops mode to launch with the new instalment in the franchise.
However, according to several leaks, including a leaked image of Modern Warfare 2's home screen, the third game mode will be titled DMZ (de-militarised zone). So let's look at everything we know so far about the new addition.
What is Modern Warfare 2 DMZ?
Modern Warfare 2 DMZ is rumoured to be an Escape from Tarkov-themed extraction style game mode. This means that players will load into a map and have to battle both other players and AI bots before extracting loot.
The loot can then be used in the future or sold, but failing the mission will mean that the loot is lost entirely.
More leaked information from @r3al1tyuk on Twitter suggests that hostage extraction could be a major element of the game mode.
Modern Warfare 2 DMZ: Release date
According to Call of Duty leaker @TheGhostOfHope, the new DMZ mode will release with the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on 28th October, but it will be in beta.
However since the mode is rumoured to have been in development since 2018, fans can be assured that the beta will have full functionality.
Leaked Modern Warfare 2 DMZ Map
Other leaks however have suggested that both will have several maps, so unfortunately we may have to wait until release to find out.
Modern Warfare 2 will be playable in the open beta sooner than you might think. It will first release for PS4 and PS5 users on the 16th of September, and for Xbox and PC players a week later on the 22nd of September.
