At long last, Black Ops Cold War's next season is here and that means there's going to be new weapons to unlock and use! We know the TEC-9 is going to be a beast, but it sounds like it's going to be a beast of a different nature to what we were expecting... Here's everything you need to know about the TEC-9 and how to unlock it.
UPDATE - The TEC-9 is single-fire?!
Treyarch has shared more information about the TEC-9 SMG ahead of being able to unlock it when Season 5 comes out - it's dividing fans in a huge way.
Without attachments, the TEC-9 is going to be the first semi-automatic SMG in Black Ops Cold War. A single-fire SMG isn't exactly what people were expecting when the TEC-9 was revealed...
" On its own, the TEC-9 can eliminate targets in three shots anywhere within 10 meters. Its blowback nature allows Operators to place their shots more accurately, differing dramatically from a category filled with more traditional spray-and-pray options."
Thankfully, Treyarch has also confirmed that you can unlock attachments for the TEC-9 that convert it to both burst-fire and fully automatic firing modes. We don't know how long this will take, but it might be worth using those Double Weapon XP tokens...
How to unlock - TEC-9 SMG
You don't need to know too much about the TEC-9 SMG to know that it's going to be a dominant force for the first few weeks of Season 5. Every time a new SMG is added to Warzone, it's a popular choice for those looking to make it into the Final Circle. We don't think the TEC-9 is going to be any different. Especially if it does have Akimbo as the rumours suggest...
" Semi-auto submachine gun. Improved accuracy from longer ranges with low recoil and slower fire rate. Good damage output with moderate range."
If you want to get your hands on the TEC-9 SMG and unlock this devastating new weapon, all you need to do is reach Tier 31 of the Season 5 Battle Pass. You can do this on both Warzone and Black Ops Cold War, thanks to cross-progression features.
Alternatively, you can also unlock the TEC-9 SMG by unlocking a Weapon Blueprint for the TEC-9. It's worth noting that this won't unlock the base version of the weapon, however, you will be able to level it in-game and change the attachments as and when they are unlocked.
When does the new weapon come out?
UPDATE - Black Ops Cold War's Season 5 update is now available and that means the TEC-9 should now be unlockable via the Season 5 Battle Pass and Store Bundle.
If you want to unlock the TEC-9 SMG, you're going to need to get your hands on the Season 5 Battle Pass. It is a free reward, but when does the Battle Pass itself come out? Well... It starts at the same time as Season 5.
This means you'll be able to start working towards unlocking the TEC-9 SMG in both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone from August 12th. More specifically, Season 5's content is due to be added to both of the Call of Duty games at the following times:
- 21:00 August 11th - PST
- 00:00 August 12th - EST
- 05:00 August 12th - BST
We don't know when there's going to be a Store Bundle with the TEC-9 in it just yet, but they should be added to the Store Bundle rotation at the start of Season 5.
