Burn, baby, burn; Treyarch is adding a Flamethrower to Black Ops' Zombies

Black Ops Cold War's Season 5 update isn't something we expected to be packed with new Zombies content, but it is. We might not be getting another round-based map for a little while, but there's new Field Upgrades, Perks, and a whole lot more in this update. The Flamethrower Support Weapon is one aspect that looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Here's what we know so far...

Fight the undead with fire in Season 5

In addition to its arrival in Black Ops Cold War's multiplayer, the Flamethrower is also joining Black Ops Cold War's Zombies modes as a craftable Support Weapon. Think of it like the Combat Bow, in that sense. It's going to be available as a pick-up, that can be randomly dropped by Special and Elite enemies, while also being available from a Crafting Table in-game.

We don't know how much Rare Salvage it's going to cost you just yet, however, we can imagine that it's going to cost a little more than the Combat Bow at 50 Rare Salvage as it is being described as a "step-up" in official communications.

With this in mind, and the Sentry Gun and War Machine costing 100 Rare Salvage, we think the Flamethrower Support Weapon is going to cost around 75 Rare Salvage. It's hard to think that it will be as effective as a Sentry Gun, but it could be...

When does Season 5 start?

UPDATE: The Flamethrower is available in both Outbreak and Round-Based Zombies as a buildable Support Weapon. You can also earn it as a Scorestreak in Multiplayer.

The Season 5 update for Black Ops Cold War, which introduces the Flamethrower Support Weapon alongside a whole host of other additions to the game's Zombies modes, is due on August 12th at the following times:

  • 21:00 August 11th - PST
  • 00:00 August 12th - EST
  • 05:00 August 12th - BST
