Call of Duty Vanguard is going to be the biggest, most ambitious, Call of Duty game we've seen in a long time - for a lot of reasons. Call of Duty Vanguard will see the formation of Special Operations Task Force (SOTF) 1 - Vanguard - fight against the remnants of the Axis powers as they scramble to estbalish a Fourth Reich in the wake of the Second World War.
GAMEPLAY - Stalingrad Demo showcases new features
During Gamescom 2021's Opening Night Live, we got a brand new look at Call of Duty Vanguard and its gameplay through the Stalingrad Campaign Demo play-through. As you can see below, it's a fantastic look at how it's going to play and some of the new mechanics at work.
Call of Duty Vanguard is going to employ Modern Warfare's weapon mounting, destructible environments, and a whole host of Second World War weaponry Call of Duty fans will be familiar with.
There's also a few new traversal mechanics in play and an interesting look at the tone of the Vanguard campaign - It's going to be dark, gritty, and intense. Everything we want from a Call of Duty campaign, really.
WORLD WAR - Vanguard is travelling to all four fronts...
Following the Call of Duty Vanguard reveal, we got an insight into the narrative being developed by Sledgehammer Games.
Call of Duty Vanguard is going to travel to the Western Front, the Eastern Front, Africa, and the Pacific in a campaign that reflects the Second World War on a scale that few video games in the genre have. This war affected everyone, everywhere - we just hope Call of Duty Vangaurd can live up to the hype that's building around the campaign...
There's going to be four playable protagonists and Sledgehammer Games has revealed them as the following:
- Private Lucas Riggs, 20th Battalion, Australian 9th Infantry Division, British Eighth Army.
- Sergeant Arthur Kingsley of the 9th Parachute Battalion, British Army.
- Lieutenant Wade Jackson, Scouting Squadron Six, United States Navy.
- Lieutenant Polina Petrova of the 138th Rifle Division, Red Army.
Expect to see a lot more from this lot between now and launch. That does raise an important question, though...
When does Call of Duty Vanguard come out?
Call of Duty Vanguard is due to release on November 5th - the Vanguard campaign and multiplayer will launch simultaneously as always. You can check out the game's reveal trailer below:
There's due to be a new Warzone map and Anti-Cheat system implemented alongside the release of Vanguard and Sledgehammer Games has confirmed that Vangaurd is going to have 20 multiplayer maps at launch - this is the most of any Call of Duty title so far.
