BEST Vanguard Beta Class Options: What weapons to try out now?

The Call of Duty Vanguard Open Beta is underway for everyone on PC and Xbox - and we can't wait to see as many people as possible playing Vanguard. It's pretty fun, if not without some issues with spawning and map design. If you're looking for a class set-up, we've got you covered. Here's a handful of the best Vanguard Beta class options we recommend you try during the open beta period.

Latest News - Vanguard Open Beta Extended

Over this weekend, Sledgehammer Games announced that the beta has been extended by a couple of days.

The CoD Vanguard Open Beta end time is now confirmed for 1pm ET/6pm BST on September 22, so you have a couple more days to try out the classes we've recommended down below.

THE ALL-ROUNDER - Assault Rifle Class

Firstly, we want to talk to you about our "All-Rounder" class. If you've played a lot of Call of Duty in your time, you'll know that an Assault Rifle is always a good shout when it comes to adaptability and the STG-44 - which is the first Assault Rifle you unlock in the Vanguard Beta - and the class we've set up to go with it.

This is perfect for a little bit of everything and should be the best way for you to get a feel of what Vanguard has to offer.

    • Optic: Nydar Model 47

    • Underbarrel: Carver Foregrip
    • Magazine: No Attachment
    • Rear Grip: Leather Grip
    • Ammo Type: Frangible

  • Perk One: Survival Training
  • Perk Two: Radar
  • Perk Three: Demolition
  • Lethal: MK2 Frag Grenade
  • Tactical: No 69 Stun Grenade

We admit, we haven't been using the Machine Pistol all that much - however, it's good to have in a pinch. We'd only make sure you realise that its base Magazine is quite small - so, looking out for an upgrade there is a must. This class is the perfect default to head into the Vanguard Beta with - it's suited to the quick-fire situations of Hotel Royal and the longer sightlines of Eagle's Nest.

RUN AND GUN - Submachine Gun Class

Next up, we're here to talk about our "Run and Gun" class - this is the one we recommend for Assault and Blitz Combat Pacing. Staying still in a Call of Duty game is a dangerous tactic - holding down an area can pay off but when the grenades start flying...

Let's just say it's sometimes better to keep on the move and that's why we've put together a Submachine Gun class that should bring a little bit of mobility to your loadout selection and class set up during the Vanguard Beta.

Vanguard Beta Class Sten

STEN - Submachine Gun Baker, it does a decent job all things considered...

Primary Weapon

  • Sten - Submachine Gun Baker
    • Muzzle: M9 Flash Hider
    • Barrel: No Attachment
    • Optic: Nydar Model 47
    • Stock: Gawain Para
    • Underbarrel: No Attachment
    • Magazine: No Attachment
    • Rear Grip: Stippled Grip
    • Ammo Type: FMJ Rounds
    • Proficiency: Steady
    • Kit: Fast Melee

Secondary Weapon

  • Panzershreck - Launcher Baker

Perks & Equipment

  • Perk One: Ghost
  • Perk Two: Radar
  • Perk Three: Double Time
  • Lethal: MK2 Frag Grenade
  • Tactical: No 69 Stun Grenade

We know everyone loves the MP40, but Vanguard's Sten might just be the best Submachine Gun you can throw into your class during the Vanguard Beta. It's quick, packs a punch, and has a recoil pattern that's much more manageable than the M1928 - Vanguard's "Thompson". We've also thrown a Panzershreck into this one because they're just fun to use - sue us!

HUNKER DOWN - Light Machine Gun Class

Do you know how we said it can be worthwhile holding down a location in Call of Duty? Well... For those occasions - and when you're playing any objective-based playlists - we've put together "Hunker Down". This is by far the most controversial Vangaurd Beta class we've seen so far, but it works!

This Light Machine Gun class is going to surprise you, but it's fantastic for taking on a busy Patrol point or mounting up down that corridor on Eagle's Nest - you know the one we're talking about. Here's what you need...

Vanguard Beta Class DP27

DP27 - Light Machine Gun Baker, the "Plate Gun" is worth checking out...

    • Kit: Fast Melee

Secondary Weapon

  • Revolving Shotgun - Shotgun Able
    • Muzzle: M97 Full Choke
    • Barrel: No Attachment
    • Optic: Monocular Reflector
    • Stock: Removed Stock
    • Underbarrel: No Attachment
    • Magazine: No Attachment
    • Rear Grip: No Attachment
    • Ammo Type: Incendiary
    • Proficiency: Wreck
    • Kit: Fast Melee

Perks & Equipment

  • Perk One: Fortified
  • Perk Two: Radar
  • Perk Three: Overkill
  • Lethal: MK2 Frag Grenade
  • Tactical: No 69 Stun Grenade

Everyone always talks about how good the MG42 is, but the DP27 - known as the "Plate Gun" by some - has always been underrated. It might fire a little slower than the MG42 but it packs a punch. Pairing this with a Revolving Shotgun seems like a no-brainer though - you can never be too careful when you do decide to move.

It's worth noting that the Vanguard Open Beta only currently allows you to level weapons up to level 20 - There are a lot more attachments out there that will most likely make for a better loadout than the above. However, from what we have... These will do the job and you might even find yourself with a new favourite going into the full release of Call of Duty Vanguard on November 5th!
