PG - Kyrie Irving, Boston Celtics vs Charlotte Hornets
Irving had an off-night shooting the ball against the Los Angeles Lakers. He went just 7-of-21 for 19 points, with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. It’s just the second time in 12 games Irving has failed to score 20 or more points this season. What happened the game immediately after he did it the first time? He bounced back with a season-high 35 points on 63 percent shooting.
Don’t bet against a similarly big night from Irving tonight against the Charlotte Hornets, in part because he has to. With Al Horford and Jayson Tatum both questionable to play, Irving may have to take on a much bigger load on offense for the Celtics, but he’s more than capable of carrying such a load.
SG - C. J. McCollum, Portland Trail Blazers vs Brooklyn Nets
McCollum caught fire last time out as he exploded for a season-high 36 points in a losing effort against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Blazers guard is having another terrific season, averaging 23.5 points while shooting a blistering 53 percent on 3-pointers.
McCollum has done very well this season against teams that like to push the pace (i.e. the Pacers, Suns, and Lakers) and the Nets are very much in that same boat. Look for him to put up another fairly productive fantasy line in a game that could turn into a shootout.
SF - Evan Fournier, Orlando Magic @ Phoenix Suns
After suffering his worst game of the season against the Boston Celtics’ league-best defense, Fournier bounced back in a big way against the New York Knicks. The Frenchman finished with 23 points, 5 assists, 5 steals, and 3 3-pointers.
Fournier is now averaging a career-high 20.5 points per game this season, while going 50/40/90 in terms of his shooting splits. Impressive stuff. That bodes well for his chances of coming up with another strong showing against the Phoenix Suns, who will all too eager to play Fournier and the Magic’s run-and-gun game.
PF - Tobias Harris, Detroit Pistons vs Atlanta Hawks
After enduring a bit of a mini-slump, Harris looks like he’s back to his best. The Pistons forward has now put up back-to-back 20-plus point games after scoring 23 points with 8 rebounds and 5 3-pointers against the Indiana Pacers, and recording 20-5-5 with 4 3-pointers against the Sacramento Kings.
Granted, both of those teams are inside the top ten in terms of allowing fantasy points to opposing power forwards, but so are Harris’ opponents for tonight, the Atlanta Hawks. With few completely reliable options at power forward in tonight’s slate, Harris should be great bang for your buck.
C - Jusuf Nurkic, Brooklyn Nets @ Portland Trail Blazers
After three straight games of 45 or more fantasy points per FanDuel scoring, Nurkic went crashing back down to earth with a 6-point, 5-rebound performance against the Memphis Grizzlies. But while that performance was bad, the Bosnian has a perfect opportunity to bounce back and redeem himself as he takes on the Brooklyn Nets.
Brooklyn could still be shorthanded along the frontcourt with three of their big men questionable to feature. That’s not good news considering they’re giving up the most fantasy points to opposing centers as it is, but it’s outstanding for Nurkic, who should be set for a much more productive outing.
