Respawn Entertainment's fast-paced battle royale Apex Legends is among the most popular multiplayer games in the world right now with 60-player matches for players to compete in and become champions.

To be a champion, however, you've got to look the part and that's where cosmetics come into play. A staple in many a multiplayer game, cosmetics provide players with a little personal touch to their character of choice.

Apex Legends is no different, with hundreds of cosmetics to collect. Chief among them are heirlooms but to get them you need heirloom shards. Here's how you can get your hands on heirloom shards in Apex.

How Do You Get Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends?

Heirloom shards act as a currency to purchase items from the heirloom store and are only collectable as a <1% drop in Apex packs according to the Apex Legends FAQ.

As the loot box of choice for Apex Legends; Apex packs can be acquired in multiple different ways including levelling up your character, ranking up on the battle pass or straight up purchasing them using Apex coins which are bought for real money.

This offsets the very low odds of getting shards just a tiny bit but you'll still need to be very lucky or open up a lot of loot boxes to get your hands on the 150 shards needed to purchase an heirloom from the store.

It's not all doom and gloom, however, as the FAQ does also state that a player cannot go over 500 packs without pulling Heirloom shards unless they already own them. This isn't really a good alternative to getting lucky but it does suggest that you will get an heirloom...eventually.

Until then, you might be best just sticking with the normal skins.
