Apex Legends Dark Depths Event: Start Date, Patch Notes, & New Skins

share to other networks share to twitter share to facebook

Respawn Entertainment's Bangalore-focused "Stories from the Outlands" short was followed by a Bangalore-focused comic strip and now we're getting a new in-game event. Unusually, this has nothing to do with Bangalore - at least not obviously, anyway. The Dark Depths Event is shaping up to be a great way to pass the time between now and Season 12 - however, it's not as expansive as Apex Legends' past events.

Here's everything you need to know and what to expect from the event...

When is the Dark Depths Event starting?

Apex Legends' next in-game event is due to start on January 11th - so, there's not long left to wait now. We're still waiting on a full set of Patch Notes, but we know quite a lot about what's coming to Apex Legends in the Dark Depths Event.

Firstly, when does the Dark Depths Event actually start? Respawn Entertainment hasn't confirmed the exact time, but we can look at previous events to get a sense of when this one should start.

The Dark Depths Event is expected to begin at the following time:

  • 10:00 January 11th - PST
  • 13:00 January 11th - EST
  • 17:00 January 11th - GMT

We're hoping that we should see this confirmed ahead of time, but don't count on it. For now, take the above with a small pinch of salt. You can check out a short preview of the new content coming in the Dark Depths Event trailer below:

Habitat is being added to Arenas

The Dark Depths Event is adding a new Arenas map to Apex Legends: Habitat. This is based on one of the New Antilla archipelago's smaller islands - Habitat shares a lot of visual assets with Storm Point and the two locations as you can see in the image below:

HABITAT 4 - There's going to be a lot of places to hide here!
" Habitat 4 was inspired by Leviathans and how it would feel to fight in their breeding grounds. It represents our vision of an arena established in a natural environment, while holding true to the tentpoles of arena design. With that being said, one of Habitat 4's key features is a large waterfall. Through the passage of time it has eroded the landscape, forming trenches and terraces of varied elevation. Making this island a paradise for slides and quick getaways."

We don't know if this is going to replace an Arenas map currently in rotation, or whether it's just being added. We should see this cleared up in Patch Notes next week.

Dark Depths Event Store Rotation

It wouldn't be an Apex Legends Event without a new set of limited-time cosmetics, right?

Respawn Entertainment is channelling nautical mythology with their selection of cosmetics and the Apex Legends in-game store is going to feature skins for Fuse, Horizon, Lifeline, Wraith, Bangalore, and Revenant during this event. You can check them out below:
